Admission Arrangements for School
We are delighted that you are considering applying for a place at Chaloner Primary School. Most children start school full-time in the September after their fourth birthday. This means they will turn 5 during their first school year. Applications for Chaloner Primary School will be made in accordance with the Local Authority’s co-ordinated admission arrangements. If you would like your child to attend our school, you must apply for a school place. (Please note that a place in the nursery does not ensure your child a place in school).
The number of places in the Reception class (sometimes referred to as the Pupil Admission Number) is 30.
The Admissions Policy for the September 2025 and 2026 intake can be found here Policy
Prior to joining Lingfield Education Trust, Chaloner Primary School was a Foundation school and part of East Cleveland Learning Trust. Lingfield Education Trust are required to follow the East Cleveland Learning Trust Policy for September 2025 and 2026 intakes. The policy issued for 2023/24 remains applicable as there have been no changes to the policy.
All admissions are still co-ordinated through the Local Authority. Further information about the admissions process and how to apply for a school place can be found at School admissions | Redcar and Cleveland.
Mid-year transfer requests are applications for school places outside the usual primary school (Reception class) admissions processes. This includes children moving between schools within Redcar and Cleveland, or children moving into Redcar and Cleveland from another area or another country for example.
If you want to discuss or apply for a mid-year transfer, please contact Redcar and Cleveland Council’s School Admissions Team (see Mid-year applications | Redcar and Cleveland for the application process). You may also contact the school to enquire about the availability of place.
We are happy to offer visits for parents and carers. Please contact the school office or alternatively email the school using the address in the contact section of the website. We look forward to welcoming you.
Appeals Guidance for School
If the school receives more applications from parents/carers than it has places available, not every child can be successful in securing a school place. The admissions criteria, also known as oversubscription criteria, will be used to decide which children to allocate places to. The oversubscription criteria are outlined in the Admissions Policy.
Parents/carers have the right of appeal to an independent appeal panel if they are dissatisfied with an admissions decision. The appeal panel will be independent. The arrangements for appeals will be in line with the School Admission Appeals Code published by the Department for Education. The decision of the panel is binding on all parties.
Parents can only appeal once for any academic year unless there has been a change in circumstances relevant to the application.
