Welcome to Year 6

Childrens Work

Children Challenging Industry

Year 6 children got to attend the 10th anniversary of the Children Challenging Industry initiative at Middlesborough College. They got to speak to working professionals about the various projects that CCI are involved with and carried out science experiments of their own.

Design & Technology

Following on from Roald Dahl day, the Y6 children used one of his stories for inspiration in their Design & Technology work. They designed and built a working home for the characters from the Minpin series of books, a tiny family akin to The Borrowers.

Darchem Visit

As part of their work with Children Challenging Industry, the Year 6 children visited Darchem. Here the children were involved in their own investigations, tackling real problems that are encountered within science-based industries. It helped the children to understand where science may be used in ‘real life.’

Hockey Success

Congratulations to the Y5/6 hockey team who, not only progressed in 2nd place from the Guisborough Cluster Tournament, but also came 2nd in the East Cleveland Finals held at Macmillan Academy. The team will now go on to represent Chaloner in the Tees Valley Finals on the 22nd June against all the best teams across Teesside. Congratulations and good luck!

The children in Y6 enjoyed a fantastic challenge day, where they were asking to plan, design, make and promote an innovative product. We were amazed with their creative thinking and the judges had such a difficult decision to make when choosing the winning team.

Science Week

In March 2016 all KS2 children took part in Science Week. The theme this year was electricity. The children learned how to make a full circuit to make a buzzer, lightbulb and motor to work. They also learned about the different materials that would conduct electricity and the ones which act as an insulator.

Residential Trips

Ford Castle in Northumberland

Dungeons, weapons, team games and a tour of the castle. All children have been brilliant so far and settled in very well indeed!
